Uganda 1- 0 Congo Post Match review

Uganda managed gets a win over Congo Brazzaville in a match that was played today November 12, 2016 at Nambole stadium, Kampala Uganda in the FIFA 2018 World Cup Qualifiers. The hosts Cranes managed to defend the early goal that was scored by Farouk Miya in 17th Minute.

This was a game that Uganda needed to win, to get confidence in this competition. This makes Uganda the leaders of the table with 4 goals followed by Egypt 3 and Ghana 1 while Congo has no points but Ghana and Egypt still has a game tomorrow and the result will either place Uganda in the 2nd or at the same level with either Egypt or Ghana basing on the result.

The last match day result, Uganda Cranes drew with Ghana in Tamale, Ghana while Egypt won Congo in Brazzaville. With Uganda winning today’s game, Congo Brazzaville seems to be getting out of the Competition if Egypt wins tomorrow’s game. A win on the side of Ghana will bring life back to the group, but if Egypt wins the game, Ghana and Congo Brazzavile will be on their way out of the competition and the stiff competition will be between Uganda and Egypt.

Uganda missed many opportunities especially by the striker Geoffrey Massa, the defense was also shaky after removal of Murushid Juuko who was injured. Micho, the Uganda Cranes coach should consider giving the Onduparaka FC Striker Shaban Muhammada chance, he is the missing man on Uganda’s line up. As per now, Uganda has no typical striker and Shaban would be one. KCCA’s Geoffrey Sserunkuma is underutilized; he needs to be given more minutes on the pitch. In the group Uganda needs more goals if it is to qualify the determinant might not be points but goal difference.

Match attendance was the worst. The capacity of Nambole stadium is 45,202 but the attendance was less than a quarter. Two things may be the reason, and one is poor advertising of the match. The media attention this week was on the American politics and very few people knew that Uganda has such an important game and the second reason is the scandal that happened on the Comoros game when FUFA printed excess tickets. It reduced morale of some Ugandans.
