The president of the republic of Uganda Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has today on Thursday hosted the Uganda Cranes team at a Luncheon, at State House Entebbe. With his Wife Janet Kataha Museveni who doubles as the Minister of Education and Sports they welcomed a team of both players and officials.
The intention of the luncheon was to congratulate team upon the recent qualification to the African Cup of Nations and to encourage them to be strong in their FIFA World Cup 2018 qualifying campaign
“I hosted the Uganda Cranes to a luncheon to congratulate them upon their recent qualification to the AFCON.” Said the President on Social Media “On behalf of Ugandans, I also wanted to commend them for the successes so far in the campaign to represent Uganda at the World Cup in 2018.”
The President pledged to support football through facilitating and supplementing on the budgets for players allowances and bonuses on the forthcoming matches. The president also requested the players and officials to be of good ambassadors in promoting fitness entertainment and promoting the country.
“I appeal to the players and officials to be good ambassadors since beyond promoting fitness, entertainment and building character, sports also promotes the country. I will supplement the players’ allowances and offer bonuses for the upcoming games. I also wish them victory on Saturday against Congo Brazzaville in a World Cup qualifier.”
This is not the first time the Uganda cranes team has been meeting the President of the Uganda. In 2015 after the CECAFA Victory, the team travelled upcountry and met him in Soroti where he was doing his campaigns in 2016 General elections campaign.
According to Kawowo Sports, the team that went to meet the President included the following players, Denis Onyango, Robert Odongkara, Salim Jamal Magola, Benjamin Ochan,Ismail Watenga Denis Iguma, Walusimbi Godffrey, Isaac Isinde,Murshid Juuko, Ronald Mukiibi , Shafic Batambuze,Godfrey Baba Kizito, Tonny Mawejje ,Yassar Mugerwa, Moses Oloya ,Khalid Aucho, Faruku Miya, William Kizito Luwagga, Geoffrey Massa, Timothy Awanyi, Joseph Ochaya, Nicholas Wadada, Muzamil Mutyaba, Geoffrey Serunkuma and Shaban Muhammad. Officials: Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredejovic (Head coach), Moses Basena (Assistant Coach), Fred Kajoba (Goalkeeping coach), Ivan Ssewanyana (Team Physio), Ronald Kisolo (Team Doctor), Chrispus Muyinda (Team manager), Saidi Lugolobi (Kits Manager), Patrick Ntege (FUFA National Team teams’ coordinator).
President Museveni surprised them with the football tactics he showed them at his 72 years and all were marveled at the Talent of the President.
On Saturday, Uganda Cranes will be playing Congo Brazzaville in the FIFA World Cup Qualifiers the game that will be in Nambole Stadium, Kampala that is necessary win game if Uganda is to qualify to Russia in 2018.
