General Edward Katumba Wamala is a Ugandan Military officer, the current Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) the biggest military office in Uganda.

Katumba Wamala was born on November 19, 1956 in Bweeza Kalangala, Ssese Islands.
Katumba Wamala is married and is a father to 6 Children. One son and 5 daughters.
Education of Katumba Wamala
Katumba holds various academic documents from various military schools and civilian schools. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Relations and diplomacy from Nkumba University, He has a certificate in Agriculture from Bukalasa Agricultural College from 1977-1979, he has a Masters Degree in Strategic Leadership from United States Army War College, and other military qualifications from Military schools and academies in Uganda, Tanzania, USSR (Russia), Nigeria and USA.
General Katumba Wamala joined army in 1979. He was commissioned to the rank of Second Lieutenant in 1980 after completing the Officer Cadet Course in Tanzania. By 1986, he was an officer in the Uganda National Liberation Army, the national army controlled by UPC and later taken over by Tito Okello Lutwa after a coup that removed President Apollo Milton Obote. When Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s NRA overthrew the UNLA, Katumba Wamala crossed to the NRA, which later became UPDF.
In 1999, he went to the US Army War College before returning after studies in 2000 to command the UPDF at the Rank of Major General in Democratic Republic of Congo.
In 2001, he was given the highest office in the Uganda Police Force after being appointed the Inspector General of Police (IGP) replacing John Kisembo and was the first military officer to serve in the highest capacity in the Uganda Police Force (UPF).
In 2005, he was promoted to Lieutenant General and was appointed the Commander of Land Forces. He was the overseer of the Somalia Peace Keeping Mission.
On May 23, 2013, Katumba Wamala was appointed a Four Star General and was appointed Chief of Defence Forces replacing General Aronda Nyakairima (RIP)
