FDC Okays Winnie Byanyima coming as surety for ‘murderer’ Kanyamunyu

The Forum for Democratic Change- FDC has come to terms with the action done by the Wife to the former Presidential Flag Bearer Kizza Besigye, Winnie Byanyima, when she came as surety to rescue her nephew Matthew Kanyamunyu who is charged with Murder.

Various FDC officials including Odonga Otto have defined it as an act of treachery towards FDC and the northern Uganda, and went ahead to denounce their support towards FDC starting from Teusday.

FDC via their official Facebook Page made it clear that there is a distinction between personalities and the party and that what Winnie Byanyima does should not account for the FDC party or Husband Kizza Besigye.

“We are a political party and not related to the criminal act before the courts today. We have however, made policy statements about the Criminal Justice.” Said FDC Media team.

They went ahead to remind their supporters that one acting as a surety of a criminal is not an indication that he/she supports the criminal but rather that; the person is ready to make sure the criminal appears before the court.

“Our supporters need to be reminded that standing for surety is legal and does not mean that one is in support of a criminal act however, that you take responsibility for one’s appearance in court.”

To justify the matter, they brought the team of other high ranking FDC officials who have ever acted as sureties on murder cases including the party president Mugisha Muntu, The Late Sam Njuba, Reagan Okumu and others.

“Also, for the record: Sam Njuba RIP acted as lawyer in Akbar Godi’s murder case. Mugisha Muntu, Reagan Okumu & Francis Epetait as sureties. We respect Criminal Justice processes.

Also Winnie Byanyima stood with Reagan Okumu and Mike Ocula when they were accused of the murder of an LC 3 chairman.” Said FDC

Various FDC supporters described the act of Winnie Byanyima as set back in their struggle to get leadership while others described it as her constitutional right. Kizza Besigye has not yet reacted publicly to the matter.
