Police in Bunyoro detain Palace Cleaner for Stealing the King’s Gun

Police in Hoima are holding a middle aged man who allegedly stole a gun used to protect the Omukama of Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom, Dr. Solomon Iguru Gafabusa.

The suspect has been identified as Collin Ahebwa, who worked as a cleaner at the King’s Karuzika Palace in Hoima Town.

Authorities say last week, the suspect sneaked into one the Omukama’s private rooms in the palace where he picked the AK47 Riffle used in the protection of the King, and disappeared with it, after tendering in his resignation from the palace.

Sources at Hoima Police Station told Chimpreports that the suspect hid the gun in a drainage channel along the Hoima-Kaiso-Tonya road in Kyesiga village, Bujumbura division in Hoima Municipality.

The sources also revealed that the Kingdom security officers noticed that the gun was missing shortly after Ahebwa decided to quit his job on short notice.

The kingdom security personnel however managed to find and interrogate Ahebwa until he led them to the drainage channel where they found the weapon.

The Albertine region police spokesperson, Julius Hakiza confirmed the arrest of the suspect and the recovery of the gun.
